An earthquake is measured in parts of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday night, sending mild tremors across several districts including Lucknow, Kanpur, and Prayagraj. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) confirmed the quake occurred at 10:00 PM IST, with its epicenter located near the Uttarakhand-UP border at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Residents reported feeling tremors for a few seconds, prompting many to rush out of their homes in panic. “The bed shook and the windows rattled. It was brief but quite strong,” said Shalini Verma, a resident of Gomti Nagar in Lucknow.
So far, there have been no reports of casualties or significant damage, according to a statement from the State Disaster Management Authority. Officials have assured that necessary precautionary measures are in place and rescue teams are on alert.
Authorities are urging people not to panic and to follow basic earthquake safety protocols. Minor aftershocks may occur, and citizens are advised to stay vigilant.
