Union Minister Amit Shah highlighted the development of sports infrastructure in Ahmedabad, referring to the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex as the “most advanced sports complex,” a view he attributed to heads of various sports associations. Shah stated that Ahmedabad is anticipated to become the “sports capital of the country,” citing facilities such as the Narendra Modi Stadium, the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave—a 233-acre project near the stadium—and the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex.

Shah also detailed the national sports policy, presenting it as being founded on five pillars: providing a global platform for Indian athletes, fostering economic and social development through sports, transforming sports into a widespread movement, and integrating sports with education. He drew a comparison of India’s Olympic medal performance, noting 20 gold medals won from Independence until 2012, against 15 Olympic medals secured in the past eight years.

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, present at the event, emphasized that the newly implemented sports policy has established a “strong sports ecosystem,” crucial for enhancing sports infrastructure. Additionally, the Chief Minister stated that the state’s sports budget has significantly increased over two decades, with the current allocation at Rs 486 crore.
