Following their victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup final, the Indian cricket team reportedly declined to accept the championship trophy. The team’s decision stemmed from an objection to Asia Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi presenting the award, citing his dual roles as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Pakistan’s Interior Minister. Consequently, Mr. Naqvi reportedly retained the trophy.
Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik commented on the incident, stating that the Indian team’s choice not to accept the trophy would “haunt” them in the future. He underscored the considerable effort and challenging conditions the players endured to win the tournament, questioning the rationale behind rejecting the symbol of their hard-earned achievement, particularly after a closely contested match.
