Decades-Long Pursuit of Justice Results in Sexual Assault Conviction

Dan Cooper has publicly shared his experience following the conviction of Shaun Gilder for a sexual assault that occurred in 2004. Cooper, then 17, reported the attack by Gilder, then 21, in Gorleston, Norfolk, an incident that left him with serious internal injuries requiring multiple hospital admissions.

After initially reporting the assault in September 2004, Cooper stated his resolve to pursue justice was renewed in 2018 while serving on a jury. He subsequently reported the attack again to Norfolk Police.

Nearly two decades after the event, Shaun Gilder was sentenced to eight years in prison. Cooper, now 39, has chosen to waive his anonymity to encourage others to report similar crimes to the police. He currently states he enjoys caring for his three dogs, mountain biking, and travelling.
