Delhi Police stated on Thursday that no organization has received permission for protests at Jantar Mantar this week. Despite this, security arrangements are being made in Lutyens Delhi due to expectations of a significant gathering.
The All India Students’ Association (AISA) had planned a protest for Friday, calling for the removal of the Chief Election Commissioner over alleged electoral roll irregularities. The Indian Youth Congress also had its request for a protest at Jantar Mantar denied.
Senior police officials anticipate a large turnout, even without authorization, and have requested additional forces from the Ministry of Home Affairs. Multi-layer barricades have been erected around the protest site, and approximately 4,000 personnel from various police and paramilitary units have been deployed.
