Duchess of Kent's Funeral Held; Noted as Modern Royal Catholic Service

The funeral of Katharine, Duchess of Kent, was held at Westminster Cathedral, with King Charles and other senior members of the Royal Family in attendance. Queen Camilla, aged 78, was unable to attend due to illness. This event marks the first Catholic funeral for a member of the Royal Family in modern times, and a message from Pope Leo is scheduled to be read during the service.

The Duchess, who passed away earlier this month at 92, was the oldest member of the Royal Family. Cardinal Vincent Nichols presided over the private service, noting its historical importance while also describing it primarily as a “family funeral” for a “greatly loved” individual. The Cardinal also referenced the Duchess’s past volunteer work with The Passage charity for the homeless.
