A great white shark was observed leaping from the water near Marina State Beach in California over the weekend. Videos shared online captured the shark breaching several feet into the air in the background as people posed for photographs on the shore.
California state park officials confirmed that a shark matching the description of a great white was seen near the beach at the same time the video was recorded. As a result, shark advisories have been posted at the beach as per departmental procedures.
Officials reminded visitors that sharks are an integral part of the coastal environment and that encounters between humans and sharks are uncommon. Great white sharks are known to inhabit Monterey Bay seasonally and play a crucial role in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems.
