Indian Government Mandates New Warning Label for Nimesulide

The Central Government of India has directed pharmaceutical manufacturers to implement a mandatory “Box Warning” on packaging for Nimesulide, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) commonly prescribed for pain and fever. This regulatory action tightens the drug’s usage conditions following safety concerns brought forth by the country’s leading medical research body and endorsed by the Drug Technical Advisory Board (DTAB).

Under the new order, Nimesulide is to be utilized solely as a “second line drug,” meaning its prescription is recommended only after initial treatment options have been considered and proven insufficient. The drug has been subject to ongoing regulatory scrutiny for several years prior to this latest directive.
