India’s preparation for the upcoming ODI World Cup in South Africa is facing significant challenges, particularly in its pace bowling department. Captain Gill expressed concerns about the lack of available resources and the team’s inability to field a consistent bowling lineup due to recurring injuries.
Gill highlighted that several key pacers are either injured or not performing at their best, leaving the team with limited options. He stated that there is “not that much time to experiment” and that the team needs to settle on its preferred World Cup combination soon. The upcoming series in New Zealand further complicates matters, as several Test regulars will be unavailable for the limited-overs matches.
The captain also pointed out the team’s struggles in bowling during the power play and at the death, which has led to high-scoring matches. Additionally, fielding standards have been a concern, with several catches dropped during recent series, impacting the team’s momentum. Gill emphasized the need for improvement in these areas to be at peak performance for the World Cup.
