Leaders of the Eelam National Liberation Front (ENLF) are scheduled to travel to New Delhi for discussions with Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, following an invitation from the Prime Minister’s office. These talks are expected to occur after Gandhi’s return from election-related engagements in Punjab. In the United Kingdom, ten Asian members of the Birmingham community relations council resigned amidst a dispute with West Indian members concerning the Handsworth riots. The Indian community in the riot-affected Handsworth area expressed a desire for Asian leaders to address racial tensions, citing concerns about being singled out for attacks and highlighting a division between the Indian and West Indian communities on the issue. Separately, Indian space authorities have contacted the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to inquire about launching additional satellites on 1987 space shuttle flights, in addition to the already planned INSAT-1C. India is also exploring launch possibilities with the European space agency for these prospective additional satellites.
