The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) conducted the State Level Selection Test (SLST) on Sunday for assistant teacher positions in Classes 11 and 12, across 478 centres in West Bengal. This recruitment initiative aims to fill 35,726 assistant teacher posts in state-aided and sponsored schools, with an estimated 250,000 candidates appearing for the examination.

Notably, 13,517 candidates from other states, primarily Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, participated in Sunday’s exam. This follows a previous SLST held on September 7, which also saw substantial interstate interest, with approximately 31,000 candidates from other states taking the test for Classes 9 and 10 teacher posts.

Applicants from outside West Bengal stated various reasons for their participation, including a reported scarcity of job opportunities in their home states, the general practice of applying for recruitment examinations nationwide, and the significant number of vacancies announced in West Bengal.
