A man who died after entering a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park on Saturday has been identified as William Chapman. Police confirmed Mr. Chapman was visiting the park alone and was pronounced dead at the scene.

An eyewitness reported seeing Mr. Chapman wearing headphones and pacing near the enclosure before he entered it and was attacked. South Yorkshire Police stated that his family has been informed and is receiving support from specialist officers.

Following the incident, the wildlife park was evacuated and has remained closed for ongoing investigations. The City of Doncaster Council has also initiated a health and safety inquiry into the death.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park expressed its condolences to the family and confirmed that the Amur tiger involved, named Altai, is safe within its enclosure and will not be euthanized. Experts noted that determined individuals can sometimes bypass zoo security measures.
