Bandra police in Mumbai have reported the arrest of 12 individuals, including three women, in connection with nine theft cases recorded since the commencement of the annual Mount Mary Fair on September 14. The arrests were made for alleged pickpocketing and mobile phone thefts during the event.
Authorities stated that the suspects traveled from outside Mumbai, with the women from Pune having prior theft records for gold ornaments, and two other accused originating from Amravati. In response to potential criminal activity, Deputy Commissioner of Police Dixit Gedam initiated a special security detail.
This team, composed of 28 officials from seven police stations, excluding Bandra’s, is tasked with monitoring the fair for illicit activities. Furthermore, approximately 50 personnel from the Bandra police station and traffic officials have been deployed from Bandra railway station to Mount Mary Church to manage the large crowds of devotees. Police also indicated that other individuals involved in thefts at the fair managed to escape apprehension.
