Rainfall Impacts Maharashtra: Fatalities, Rescues, and IMD Alerts

Heavy rainfall across Maharashtra has led to significant impacts, with at least 10 fatalities reported in rain-related incidents over a 48-hour period. Authorities have conducted over 11,800 rescues from flood-affected areas, primarily in districts including Nashik, Dharashiv, Ahilyanagar, Jalna, and Yavatmal.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for six districts—Mumbai suburban, Raigad, Pune, Thane, Palghar, and Nashik—warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong surface winds. Mumbai has already recorded over 3,000 mm of rain this monsoon season.

Further south, the Jayakwadi dam on the Godavari River experienced increased inflow, necessitating the opening of all 27 gates and the release of 1,25,000 cusecs of water. This prompted the evacuation of nearly 7,000 people in Paithan, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where Harsul Circle alone recorded 196 mm of rainfall in 24 hours. Heavy rains also affected Beed, Nanded, and Parbhani districts.
