Indian high-jumper Sarvesh Kushare has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first athlete from India to qualify for the men’s high jump final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. He secured his place in the final, scheduled for Tuesday, September 16, 2025, by recording a personal best leap of 2.28m, finishing joint-sixth in the qualification round. This achievement highlights a journey that began with unconventional training methods, including practice in a makeshift pit created from corn husk and other agricultural waste, under the guidance of his childhood coach, Raosaheb Jadhav. Kushare, who previously set a personal best of 2.27m in 2022, is now focused on surpassing the national record of 2.29m.
