Severe Rainfall Prompts IMD Alerts Across Western Maharashtra

Western Maharashtra is experiencing significant rainfall, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue red and orange alerts for several districts. These alerts, issued on Monday, September 29, 2025, indicate the likelihood of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.

As of 6:32 a.m. on September 29, districts including Nashik, Palghar, Thane, Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, Raigad, and Pune were under a red alert. Mumbai, the financial capital, has recorded three consecutive days of heavy rainfall, leading to localized flooding in various areas since Saturday night. The downpour has unfortunately resulted in five fatalities over the past 24 hours, with deaths reported from Ahilyanagar, Nashik, Jalna, and Yavatmal. This ongoing severe weather in Western Maharashtra contrasts with the monsoon’s withdrawal from much of North India.
