Protests are ongoing, with supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and student groups demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) over alleged mass voter deletion. While initial attention was on CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and spokespersons, Neha Bora has become a central figure in the demonstrations.
Bora, the national president of the All India Students’ Association (AISA), previously gained attention in July for participating in a 23-day fast with other activists. She is a PhD scholar at JNU, holding a BA from Delhi University and an MA from Ambedkar University. She comes from a family of BJP supporters, which she has stated has led to ideological disagreements at home.
Her activism began during her undergraduate studies at Delhi University with a street theatre group. She also participated in protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in 2019-2020. Fellow activists and notable figures like Yogendra Yadav have acknowledged Bora’s prominent role and leadership in the current protest movement.
