The Telangana government will soon establish a welfare board for auto-rickshaw drivers, announced Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka. This initiative aims to provide social security and welfare benefits to transport workers.
The government is committed to addressing the issues faced by auto drivers with a humanitarian approach. This follows recent approval for an increase in auto fare from ₹11 to ₹14 per kilometre. The Deputy Chief Minister criticized the previous administration for not resolving driver concerns despite a decade of protests.
Nearly 20 lakh families rely on the transport sector. The proposal for the welfare board has been discussed in the Cabinet and will be implemented after legislative and funding procedures are completed. Other demands from auto workers will also be examined.
Additionally, ₹200 crore has been allocated to support the transition to battery-operated vehicles. A subsidy of ₹1.5 lakh per auto is being provided to encourage the adoption of electric, solar-powered, and CNG vehicles for cleaner urban transport.
