More than two lakh voters in Telangana, all aged 35 or older, have received election notices without any stated reason. An analysis of data from the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) by the Sabar Institute and Constitutional Guardians Forum has raised concerns about this pattern.
The analysis highlights two main issues. Firstly, it questions what voters are expected to respond to when the notice lacks a specified reason. Secondly, the fact that these notices are exclusively sent to individuals aged 35 and above suggests a specific, yet undisclosed, rule has been applied across polling booths.
According to lead researcher Sabir Ahamed, all official lists should be consistent. He pointed out that if the constituency-wise list of anomalies shows an empty field for the reason of issuing a notice, but the actual notice sent to the voter does provide a reason, this indicates a significant coordination gap. The analysis further noted that the youngest recipient is exactly 35 years old, with common ages ranging from 42 to 50, and the middle age of this group being 52. These voters are distributed across 30,971 out of 36,169 booths, indicating it is not an isolated error.
