Laura Trott, the UK’s education secretary, has stated that the Conservative party would aim to prevent political activism from entering classrooms. Her remarks were made during a speech at a conference, which focused on what she described as excesses of political correctness in schools.
Trott’s speech touched upon topics such as pupils being taught about white privilege, the concept of gender identity, and claims of racism in Britain. She asserted that the government’s intention is to ensure that political agendas are kept separate from the educational environment.
During a panel discussion following her speech, Trott’s points were met with some skepticism. One commentator noted that following a recent supreme court judgment, it was unlikely that children were still being told that women can have penises, suggesting that some of Trott’s examples might be outdated.
