A United Nations-backed Commission of Inquiry has presented a report accusing Israel of committing genocide in the Gaza Strip. The commission, chaired by Navi Pillay, stated its finding that Israel is responsible for acts it alleges meet four out of five criteria set forth in the 1948 Genocide Convention. These alleged acts include killing members of a group, causing serious bodily or mental harm, preventing births, and inflicting conditions calculated to bring about physical destruction. The panel attributed responsibility for these actions to Israel’s top leadership. Israel has vehemently rejected these findings, dismissing the report as biased, antisemitic, distorted, and false. The commission further urged the international community to take action in response to its findings.
