West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced that the proposed ‘Durga Angan’ complex, intended to showcase the state’s Durga Puja crafts and culture, is slated for completion within two years. Speaking at a Durga Puja pandal inauguration, Banerjee confirmed that land for the project near New Town’s Eco Park, adjacent to the Ramakrishna Mission premises, has been identified and has received state cabinet approval. She described the future complex as “world-class,” envisioning it as a year-round attraction comparable to the Jagannath Dham. This initiative follows UNESCO’s 2021 recognition of Durga Puja in Kolkata as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. During the same address, the Chief Minister also emphasized the significance of the Bengali language and commended the design of the specific pandal, which was modeled on the Jagannath temple in Digha.
