Utah County prosecutors have filed an aggravated murder charge against Jerad Robinson in connection with the September 10 fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk, an executive director for Turning Point USA. According to prosecutor Jeff Gray, Robinson allegedly instructed his roommate to delete incriminating text messages and remain silent if questioned by police following Kirk’s death.
Investigators reportedly learned from Robinson’s mother that her son had “started to date his roommate,” who authorities state “was transitioning genders.” Evidence presented by Gray includes an alleged text message from Robinson to his roommate stating, “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I’m going to take it.” Further communications reportedly show the roommate asking Robinson about the planning duration, to which Robinson allegedly replied, “a bit over a week,” and about the motive, with Robinson stating, “I had enough of his hatred.”
Gray also detailed alleged texts from Robinson concerning bullet engravings that were reported in news coverage prior to his arrest, alongside further instructions to the roommate to delete their exchanges and avoid speaking with authorities. Robinson surrendered to police with the assistance of a family friend who is a law enforcement official.
