An incident of unrest unfolded in Cuttack, Odisha, during a Durga Puja idol immersion procession in the early hours of Saturday, October 4, 2025. The altercation, involving two groups exchanging stones and glass bottles, led to injuries for six individuals, including Deputy Commissioner of Police Rishikesh Khillari, who is reported to be in stable condition. Authorities intervened with a baton charge and the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) to restore order. Six individuals have been arrested in connection with the violence, identified through CCTV footage. Immersion processions subsequently resumed around 6 AM under heavy security, with 120 idols successfully immersed by 10 AM. The situation is being monitored remotely by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and appeals for public cordiality have been made.
