ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Limited (AMNSIL) is establishing a new Integrated Steel Plant (ISP) in Andhra Pradesh's Anakapalli district. The facility will be situated across five villages within Nakkapalli Mandal and is planned for development in two phases, targeting an overall capacity of 17.8 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
The initial phase of the ISP, estimated at a capital cost of ₹67,345 crore, is currently in its early stages. This phase is projected to have an annual production capacity of 8.2 MTPA and will offer a portfolio of six finished saleable products, with hot rolled coils making up 5.8 MTPA of this output. The plant site will encompass 2,200 acres.
Operational requirements for the plant include approximately 135 million litres per day (MLD) of water, primarily to be sourced from the Polavaram Left Main Canal via an underground pipeline, supplemented by treated iron slurry water and recycled wastewater from within the facility. AMNSIL has also committed ₹3,540 crore for its environmental management plan, alongside an annual recurring cost of ₹355 crore. The ISP is designed to utilize a blast furnace and a basic oxygen furnace (BoF), technologies commonly associated with large-volume integrated steel production.
