Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Scheduled Castes chairman K. S. Jawahar has instructed the police department to file First Information Reports (FIRs) immediately when individuals report atrocities against Scheduled Caste persons.
This directive was issued during a review meeting in Vizianagaram with local officials, addressing concerns over delays in registering cases under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act-1989. The meeting also included discussions on the implementation of welfare schemes designated for Scheduled Castes.
Furthermore, representatives from Dalit organizations conveyed their grievances, requesting the Commission to undertake a study of the socioeconomic conditions of Scheduled Caste communities, prioritize improvements to amenities in student hostels, and facilitate skill development training programs for youth to enhance employment opportunities.
