A report by the Wall Street Journal indicates that Andrew Tulloch, a co-founder of Thinking Machines Lab, has departed the artificial intelligence company to join Meta Platforms. A spokesperson for Thinking Machines Lab confirmed Tulloch’s exit, stating that he decided to pursue a different path for “personal reasons.”

The report also references earlier accounts detailing Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s unsuccessful attempt to acquire Thinking Machines Lab from its co-founder, Mira Murati. Following this, Zuckerberg reportedly approached numerous employees, including Tulloch, with recruitment offers. Tulloch’s reported compensation package at Meta could have been valued at up to $1.5 billion over a period of at least six years, including significant bonuses and stock performance incentives.

This development occurs amid Meta’s broader strategy to enhance its advanced AI capabilities, which includes aggressively recruiting researchers and employees from rival companies. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has previously stated that Meta offered its employees substantial bonuses to facilitate recruitment, as the tech giant seeks to accelerate its artificial intelligence initiatives.
