Mark Cerny, lead architect for the PS5 and PS5 Pro, and Jack Huynh of AMD, recently outlined graphics technology advancements being developed for Sony’s next gaming console, expected to launch in “a few years time.” These innovations are currently undergoing “simulation.” The primary objective of the partnership between Sony and AMD is to improve future GPUs’ efficiency in handling complex visual effects such as graphics upscaling, ray tracing, and path tracing, which are essential for creating highly realistic game worlds. Cerny stated that the “current approach has reached its limit,” leading Sony and AMD to integrate components of AMD’s RDNA architecture into the design of upcoming console hardware.
