A deep depression originating over the Bay of Bengal has caused incessant rainfall and widespread waterlogging across parts of Odisha and South Bengal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued various rain alerts as the system approached the coast. In Odisha, officials reported one fatality and two individuals missing, stemming from landslides triggered by the heavy precipitation. The adverse weather conditions also led to disruptions in Bijaya Dashami celebrations in Bengal. The IMD had forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall for several districts in South Bengal, including South 24 Parganas, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Kolkata, and Howrah, with expectations for the conditions to continue until Friday morning.
