Thane Deputy Municipal Commissioner Shankar Patole was suspended from service following his arrest by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on October 2 in connection with an alleged bribery case. The ACB reported apprehending Omkar Gaikar, a private individual, on the same day for purportedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25 lakh, allegedly on Patole’s instructions. Patole was subsequently arrested from his Thane office based on technical evidence, which reportedly indicated conversations between Patole and the complainant, a private developer, where bribes were allegedly demanded and instructions given to Gaikar.
The investigation, prompted by the complainant—who had reportedly approached the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) regarding the removal of three illegal structures—also revealed that an additional Rs 10 lakh was allegedly transferred in July to the bank account of another private individual, Sushant Surve, reportedly at Patole’s direction. Surve was arrested on Friday and has since been remanded in police custody until October 6.
