The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) State Committee has reaffirmed its position regarding seat allocation for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly election, seeking six constituencies. This demand contrasts with an offer of five seats from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leadership.

Party sources indicate that the CPI(M) considers six seats as its deserved allocation, intending to communicate this decision to the DMK. Future steps will be determined based on the DMK's reply. The CPI(M) remains committed to the DMK-led alliance, with the objective of preventing a victory for the BJP-AIADMK combine.

During recent internal meetings, including a late-night session attended by General Secretary M.A. Baby, a suggestion emerged to potentially contest certain constituencies independently while supporting the DMK in others, depending on the negotiation outcomes. The party's current stance is informed by a claim that the DMK leadership had previously indicated an increase in its seat share for the 2021 elections, drawing parallels to its approach during the 1998 Lok Sabha election.
