Prominent Indian professional wrestler Dara Singh, who also pursued an acting career, appeared in the 1985 Malayalam romantic comedy Mutharamkunnu PO. Directed by Sibi Malayil and scripted by Sreenivasan, Singh portrayed himself in the film.

During the film's production, Singh received ₹25,000 for his role and agreed to most demands. However, he notably declined a script element where his character, portraying himself, was initially intended to deliberately lose a wrestling match. Singh reportedly asserted, "Wrestling is a truthful sport," and that there is "no concept of deliberately conceding defeat in wrestling." This opposition to the proposed narrative point was later confirmed by director Sibi Malayil.
