During the inauguration of a State-level men's lawn tennis tournament, Labour Minister and Dharwad district in-charge Santosh Lad underscored the State government's commitment to sports infrastructure development. He called for collaborative efforts to enhance the overall sports environment within the district. Mr. Lad highlighted Dharwad's growing presence in the sports sector, particularly in tennis, noting the city's eight tennis courts, a number reportedly second only to Bengaluru in the state. The tournament itself saw participation from over 300 players.
MLA Arvind Bellad acknowledged Dharwad's progress in sports and offered his support for continued development. Bellad also advocated for the comprehensive restoration of the historic Gymkhana Club in Dharwad, which dates back to the British period. Additionally, he mentioned the upcoming completion of an international-standard stadium in Hubballi, anticipated to provide advanced training facilities for sportspersons across the region.
Among those present at the event were Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, Chief Whip of the Legislative Council Saleem Ahmed, MLC F.H. Jakkappanavar, and Mayor Jyoti Patil.
