West Bengal Police have arrested three suspects in connection with an alleged gang-rape involving a 23-year-old medical student in Durgapur. The incident reportedly occurred on Friday night outside her college campus after she had left with a friend to get food. Authorities have stated the second-year MBBS student is in stable condition and is being supported by her mother.
According to the mother’s complaint, her daughter was allegedly left by the accompanying friend and subsequently threatened by individuals who dragged her into a forest. A four-member team from the National Commission for Women (NCW) met with the student on Saturday, requesting an Action Taken Report (ATR) from West Bengal authorities within five days.
The student’s parents, informed by classmates, arrived late Friday night and have named the student who accompanied their daughter and some of his associates in their police complaint. Concurrently, students of the private medical college staged protests on Saturday, citing concerns over perceived inaction from college authorities.
