England secured their third Women’s Rugby World Cup title by defeating Canada in the final at Twickenham, played before a record crowd of 81,885 for a women’s rugby event. The victory marks England’s first World Cup win since 2014, overcoming their previous two final losses to New Zealand with a decisive performance characterized by strong forward play and robust defense.

Canada’s Asia Hogan-Rochester opened the scoring, but England quickly responded with a solo try from Ellie Kildunne, followed by scores from Amy Cokayne and Alex Matthews. Sophie de Goede’s penalty kept Canada within reach. In the second half, Abbie Ward extended England’s lead before Hogan-Rochester secured her second try for Canada. However, a subsequent try from Alex Matthews effectively sealed the win for England.

Canada, the world’s second-ranked team, had advanced to the final following a semi-final victory against New Zealand. The team had also been pursuing a ‘Mission: Win Rugby World Cup’ fundraising initiative to bolster their resources for competing at an elite level.
