A fire occurred at the Divya Pyrotechnics unit in Gangarseval, Virudhunagar, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, resulting in one fatality and injuries to five workers. B. Gowri, a 50-year-old Sri Lankan national residing at the Thulukkankurichi Sri Lankan Tamil Rehabilitation Camp, was reported to have died in the incident.
Among the injured, S. Kalimuthu, 53, is in critical condition with 100% burns, and K. Meghala, 21, sustained 40% burns. V. Sivaranjani, 39, Vijayalakshmi, 60, and K. Mariammal, 40, also received injuries. All injured individuals have been admitted to a government hospital in Sivakasi.
Initial reports indicate that the fire was caused by friction during the handling of chemicals used in fireworks manufacturing. The Alangulam police are conducting an investigation into the incident.
