Heavy rainfall in North Bengal, particularly in the Darjeeling region, has triggered multiple landslides, leading to 14 fatalities and one person reported missing as of October 5, 2025. The incidents, affecting areas such as Mirik and Sukhiya, have caused significant disruption, including the closure of prominent tourist attractions like Tiger Hill and Rock Garden, and have resulted in road blockages, rendering travel unsafe within the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rain in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, and Coochbehar.
