Major General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, the former Military Advocate General of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), has been arrested following her admission to leaking a video. The footage, broadcast in August 2024 by an Israeli news channel, reportedly depicted Israeli soldiers assaulting a Palestinian detainee at the Sde Teiman military base in southern Israel. The detainee later received treatment for severe injuries, leading to five reserve soldiers being charged with aggravated abuse and causing serious harm.
Gen. Tomer-Yerushalmi resigned from her post last week, accepting full responsibility for the leak. Israel's Defence Minister, Israel Katz, subsequently stated that she would not be permitted to return to her role. The incident at Sde Teiman has highlighted political divisions within Israel, though the country has maintained its commitment to international law and the investigation of complaints.
