Former MLA Highlights Yadgir District Issues: Crop Damage, Illegal Sand, Police Conduct

During a press conference held in Yadgir on Monday, former MLA Narasimha Naik (Rajugouda) addressed several issues impacting the district. Naik urged the State government to promptly release compensation to farmers whose crops were destroyed by extensive rain and floods. He stated that standing crops, including cotton, red gram, and paddy, across 1.18 lakh hectares, had been lost, and hundreds of houses were also damaged. Naik further asserted that, aside from an aerial survey, no significant action had been taken to disburse compensation, appealing to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for immediate relief to affected farmers.

Addressing additional concerns, Naik alleged that illegal sand extraction and transportation had increased considerably in the district, claiming that officials were complicit rather than taking enforcement action. He also raised an allegation against Sub Inspector Rajshekhar of Narayanpur, stating that the officer celebrated his birthday with a “history sheeter” at the police station. Naik called upon Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar to investigate and take appropriate action regarding this incident.

Attendees at the press conference included BJP district unit president Basavaraj Vibhutihalli and CMC Chairperson Lalita Anpur, among others.
