A cease-fire was announced to have taken effect in Gaza by the Israeli military on Friday at noon. This development follows the Israeli government’s approval of an agreement reached with Hamas. The military stated that its soldiers were repositioning within Gaza and that its Southern Command would “continue to remove any immediate threat.”
The approved deal includes provisions for the release of all hostages held by Hamas in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, alongside an initial withdrawal of Israeli forces in Gaza. According to details released by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, Israeli forces are scheduled to establish new deployment lines inside Gaza by early Saturday. Subsequently, Hamas would be granted 72 hours to return all hostages, encompassing the remains of those who have died.
The situation on the ground in Gaza on Friday was not immediately clear.
