Goa activist Rama Kankonkar has alleged the suspected involvement of Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte in an assault he reportedly experienced over three weeks ago near Panaji.
Chief Minister Sawant dismissed these accusations, describing them as an attempt to “sensationalise and politicise the issue.” He affirmed the government’s seriousness regarding Kankonkar’s case and confirmed his statement had been recorded. Tourism Minister Khaunte did not provide a comment when approached.
The Goa Police stated that Kankonkar’s account was documented on October 2, detailing an assault by multiple individuals near Kamakshi Hotel in Caranzalem and mentioning previous attempts by a person identified as “Minguel.”
In light of these allegations, the Congress party has called for a judicial inquiry into the incident and demanded the resignations of both Chief Minister Sawant and Tourism Minister Khaunte to ensure an impartial investigation. Amit Patkar, president of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee, suggested that such accusations against high-ranking officials indicate a “deep crisis of faith” in the leadership.
