The Goa government has announced the Mhaje Ghar Yojana, an initiative primarily aimed at addressing long-standing housing and land issues within the state. This scheme seeks to grant legal recognition and ownership rights to thousands of families currently residing in unregularized homes.
Under the provisions of the Goa Land Revenue Code (Amendment) Bill, 2025, families occupying homes constructed on government land before February 28, 2014, will be eligible for full ownership rights, classified as Class I occupancy. The program emphasizes a streamlined certification process, intended to provide legal clarity without extensive administrative procedures.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant characterized the scheme as a “historic correction.” In conjunction with this housing initiative, other development projects and a new Goa Police Mobile App are also slated for inauguration.
