The Godavari river in Bhadrachalam recorded water levels above its first flood warning mark of 43 feet on Saturday night. The water level registered slightly above this threshold, with approximately 9.60 lakh cusecs of water flowing through the temple town at 8 p.m. The increase in water volume is attributed to heavy discharge from upstream reservoirs and significant rainfall in the catchment areas situated along the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border. Concurrently, the Taliperu river, a tributary of the Godavari within Charla mandal, also experienced elevated levels, prompting the opening of 20 crest gates at the Taliperu reservoir to release excess water downstream.
