Hundreds of diamond polishers at Greenlab Diamond Company in Surat, a significant producer of lab-grown diamonds, engaged in a brief work stoppage on Friday. The action followed the circulation of a message, reportedly indicating a reduction in per-carat wages, which prompted workers to gather at the company gate and demand wage restoration.
In response, company management promptly addressed the situation. They issued voice messages to the protesting workers, clarifying that no wage cuts would be implemented. Following these assurances and subsequent discussions with management staff, the diamond artisans returned to their workstations and resumed production.
A company representative attributed the incident to the spread of misinformation. Separately, Bhavesh Tank, Vice President of the Diamond Workers’ Union Gujarat, noted a post-Diwali increase in demand for the Lab Grown Diamond industry in both domestic and international markets.
