The Haryana Government has recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the death of Aqil Akhtar, the 35-year-old son of former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa and former minister Razia Sultana.
Akhtar was found deceased at his residence in Panchkula on October 16. This development follows the Haryana police registering an FIR on Tuesday, naming Mustafa, his wife, daughter, and daughter-in-law. The FIR includes charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to murder and criminal conspiracy. The complaint, filed by a Malerkotla resident, cited a video to allege that Akhtar's death was not accidental but conspiratorial.
In a subsequent video, Akhtar purportedly attributed previous statements to "schizophrenia" and expressed appreciation for his family. Mustafa has denied the allegations against his family, attributing his son's condition to an 18-year history of drug addiction, which he stated led to psychosis and severe mental illness.
