INCOIS Hosts Preparatory Event for India International Science Festival 2025

The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) recently organized a curtain-raiser event to generate awareness for the upcoming India International Science Festival (IISF) 2025. The main festival is slated to be held at Panjab University, Chandigarh. The preparatory program focused on illustrating how advanced research and development in ocean sciences can translate into impactful societal services, particularly in the context of climate change and India's expanding blue economy.

INCOIS Director T. Balakrishnan Nair highlighted the congruence between the festival's theme, "Vigyan Se Samriddhi: Aatmanirbhar Bharat" (Science for Prosperity: Self-Reliant India), and INCOIS’s mission. Speakers at the event included Professor Yuichiro Tanioka from Hokkaido University, who recognized India's scientific leadership and the efficiency of the Indian Tsunami Warning Centre. Surayachandra Rao, Director of the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology and chief organiser of IISF-2025, offered an overview of the festival's planned activities. Other participants who addressed the gathering were Jagvir Singh, Advisor at the Ministry of Earth Sciences and chief coordinator for IISF-2025, and Naresh Chafekar, a governing council member of Vignan Bharati.
