Indian Civil Aviation Ministry Directs Airlines on Festive Season Airfare Regulation

India’s Civil Aviation Minister, K Rammohan Naidu, convened a review meeting with representatives from major airlines to address concerns regarding potential increases in airfares during the upcoming festive season, specifically ahead of Diwali. During the session, Minister Naidu directed all participating airlines to maintain reasonable prices for flight tickets.

To enforce this directive and provide passenger recourse, the Civil Aviation Ministry has enhanced its AirSewa portal, allowing travelers to register complaints concerning high airfares. Additionally, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s (DGCA) Tariff Monitoring Unit has been instructed to actively monitor airlines’ compliance with their declared fare ranges. Airlines, including Air India, IndiGo, and Akasa Air, among others, assured the Minister that passenger convenience is a priority and indicated that additional flight capacities have been deployed on high-traffic routes to accommodate anticipated festive demand. The meeting also included directives for airlines to promptly and effectively resolve passenger grievances.
