Indian Nationals Abroad: Incidents in Australia and Croatia Prompt Calls for Assistance

Two distinct incidents involving Indian citizens abroad have led to appeals for government intervention and support. In Australia, Saif Mohammed Shah, a student from Hyderabad, was allegedly stabbed at his workplace, a 7-Eleven store in Burwood, New South Wales, late on Wednesday.

According to his family, Mr. Shah was undergoing surgery at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney after reportedly attempting to intervene during a disturbance involving a group of youths. His family has appealed for government assistance with his treatment. All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi has publicly urged India's Foreign Secretary and Minister for External Affairs to ensure timely help for the injured youth.

In a separate development, Mohammed Faheem Uddin, a resident of Old City, has been reported missing in Zagreb, Croatia. Mr. Faheem, who traveled to Croatia in February 2024 to seek employment, had maintained contact with his family until October. Amjed Ullah Khan, spokesperson for the Majlis Bachao Tehreek, has requested the Indian Mission in Croatia to assist his family in locating him.
