Television host Jimmy Kimmel returned to his late-night program, Jimmy Kimmel Live, on September 23, delivering an 18-minute monologue that addressed free speech and included criticism of United States President Donald Trump.
Kimmel stated that the President “wants to see me and the hundreds of people who work here fired from their job,” accusing him of celebrating “Americans losing their livelihoods” and calling such actions “un-American” and “not legal.”
His return followed an “indefinite” suspension by ABC earlier in the week, reportedly due to “alleged controversial remarks” concerning the September 10 assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. During his monologue, Kimmel referred to Kirk’s death as a “senseless murder.”
President Trump subsequently commented on Kimmel’s reinstatement, expressing disbelief that ABC “gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back” and asserting that the White House had been informed by ABC that his show was canceled.
