An all-party meeting convened in Kerala, chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, has decided to initiate a legal challenge against the Election Commission (EC) of India's decision to conduct a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state. The decision garnered support from all political parties in attendance, with the exception of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Political parties expressed significant concerns regarding the EC's directive to use the 2002 SIR list as the foundational document for the revision. These concerns align with previous objections raised by parties like the CPI(M) and the Congress during earlier consultations with the Chief Electoral Officer (Kerala), where the timing of the SIR and the choice of the 2002 rolls as the base document were critically questioned.
